the history of worldcup

Japan (2nd) vs Korea (3rd)

Eight years after the men's tournament, the memorable first World Cup for women was staged in Uruguay in South America. The U.S.S.R. won the first World Cup, following their victory in the Olympics in Munich, former West Germany, in the previous year. The club team, Yashica, representing Japan, participated in the World Cup and ended as runners-up. Takako Iida led the Yashica squad as the skipper and contributed to Japan's victory in the Olympics in Montreal three years later.
