Canadians Produce Thrilling Comeback
Canada twice came back from a set down to defeat Korea at the World Cup in a thrilling five-setter at Site B. The Canadians won 28-30, 26-24, 20-25, 27-25, 15- for their fifth victory from 11 games while Korea fell to their sixth loss.

Chang Byung-Chul was Korea's main weapon and it was his ace that gave them a two-point lead midway through the first set. Korea maintained this advantage until 23-21 when consecutive errors allowed Canada to draw level. But Korea maintained their composure to take the game on their sixth set point, despite the efforts of Murray Grapentine and Jason Haldane.

A block from Choi Tae-Wong gave Korea a 7-5 lead in the second and they carried this to 18-15 thanks mostly to his quick sets for Lee Sun-Kyu and Chang Kwang-Kyun. However, three consecutive points from Sebastien Ruette cancelled the advantage at 18-18. Two more from the left-hander moved Canada 24-23 ahead before they leveled the match with back-to-back spikes from Haldane.

A powerful series of serves from Chang helped Korea to a 7-1 lead in the third, which soon became 11-4. The blocking and spiking of Grapentine cut this to 15-11 only for the Canada to make a series of errors and allow their opponents to regain the initiative and take the set.

Canada took an 8-4 lead early in the fourth, but Korea kept them in sight with some effective blocking and brave defense from libero Yeo Oh-Hyun. A Lee block leveled at 20-20 and although Korea saved two set points they could not stop Canada making it two sets all.

The initiative was with Canada in the tie-break. They turned round 8-5 up, Korea fought back to 12-12 and saved one match point only for Canada to win with a Ruette spike.
